Zombie Snack Mix with Popcorn

I admit, I am all about the sweet, cute side of Halloween. I love toddlers in pumpkin costumes, Class Halloween parties with Candy Corn Bingo and cute Skeleton Bone Cookies.  But with my boys growing up, I know sometimes I need to embrace the creepier side of Halloween. Now don’t get me wrong, I will never encourage blood and gore (more on that here) but I thought making a fun (but slightly creepy?) Zombie Snack Mix would be a hit with my older boys. Because really, what boy wouldn’t love eating Fingers and Eyeballs out of an Monster Eyeball Cup as a part of their Halloween snack?!

Throwing a Halloween party for kids? Looking for a creative Halloween themed snack? This Zombie Snack Mix for kids is the perfect Halloween party food with its gummy fingers, eyeballs and bones! For an extra special touch, add a green candy coating and green snack foods in green zombie cups for a true Zombie theme! #HalloweenPartyFood #ZombieSnackMix

Halloween Zombie Snack Mix

Supplies Needed:
Popcorn
Eyeballs (Gummy or Candy)
Green Apple Jacks
Mini Green Marshmallows
Gummy Fingers (This is a different set than I found, but this one is even better because it has gummy brains!!)
Bones (If you use a candy coating, I would suggest skipping the bones as it made them all mushy!)
Green Candy Melts (optional)

When creating this Zombie Snack Mix, I knew I wanted to find as many green foods and body parts as I could find! I started with a popcorn base (but coated it in green later) and then added several green foods that would compliment the flavors- mainly green Apple Jacks cereal and green mini marshmallows. Next, I found green gummy fingers and green gummy eyeballs! I didn’t stick to just green foods, but that was the overall color theme of the Zombie food.

After combining the basic ingredients for the Zombie Snack Mix, you have 2 options. You can make the simple version by simply combining the ingredients and leaving it as is, or you can add a candy coating to give it an extra sweet touch.

Follow the directions on the package, but it usually instructs you to melt in the microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring well in-between. Once you have your melted candy coating, pour it evenly over the bowl of ingredients. Stir well to combine. Let harden.

Of course, I had to bag some up to give away (Zombie Gift Tags available at the end of this post), but I also loved the idea of serving up cups of Zombie Snack Mix in Zombie Monster Cups in front of a Halloween movie!

Zombie Monster Cups with Eyeballs

Supplies Needed:

For an extra special touch, add a green candy coating and green snack foods in green zombie cups for a true Zombie theme! #HalloweenPartyFood #ZombieSnackMixTo make these monster cups, I used the smaller green paper cups, but larger plastic ones would work as well. I think the cups ended up looking more like Frankenstein’s Monster, than Zombies, but I think they are cute either way! =) Next, all you have to do is stick the eyeballs on the cups! If you are making monsters, you could use a sharpie and add a scar or mouth on the cup as well.

Instagram post 2177246565457164352_1704606355 Please tell me I am not the only one who’s favorite part of Thanksgiving is the pie ?! 🥧 Not just pumpkin pie, but all kinds- apple, blueberry, peach and cherry too! 🍎 🍑 🍒 I couldn’t help but turn my love of pie into a cute Thanksgiving craft! We made this Thanksgiving Pie Garland as a sweet, simple Thanksgiving decoration and yes, even my boys helped! 😁 While not nearly as good as the real thing, I still love the way it turned out! Directions are on the blog (search pie garland) if you want to make your own. But more importantly, share your favorite pie below! 🥧 #thanksgivingpie #thanksgivinggarland #joyintheworks
Instagram post 2170206928343643133_1704606355 Have you seen these Gratitude Pumpkins that people use for centerpieces in November? All you do is take a pumpkin and a sharpie and write something new every night that you are grateful for. It’s the perfect family dinner activity because the kids get such a kick out of writing and drawing on a pumpkin and it helps everyone focus on gratitude and blessings. We started our first one tonight at dinner and instead of complaining about how my day involved taking yet another sick kid to the doctor, I wrote that I am thankful for the medicine and resources that we have available to us to help us heal when we are sick. 😊 It was a much needed shift in my perspective after a long month of illness. Personally, I am thankful to whoever started this powerful activity (and creative use for leftover pumpkins!)😆 #gratitudepumpkin #joyintheworks
Instagram post 2169526721622050453_1704606355 I seriously think the best use for leftover Halloween Candy is making your own Halloween Gingerbread House (or if you want to go fancy like we did last year, make this Graham Cracker Candy Haunted Mansion!Step-by-step directions on the blog.) If you have followed me for any length of time, you know my kids love making graham cracker candy houses for each holiday. Honestly, it makes for an easy family fun activity where even the teen will join in because there’s sweets involved! 🍬🍭🍫Of course, if you don’t keep Halloween Candy around or it *somehow* disappeared already, you might just need to take advantage of some of those after Halloween sales! 😆 What do you do with all your leftover candy or (no judgement!) do you even have any left at this point?! 😜 #leftoverhalloweencandy #hauntedgingerbreadhouse #fallfamilyfun #joyintheworks
Instagram post 2167562213345302042_1704606355 Storm Trooper and Pokémon Trainer. The sick teenager (that won’t let me take his picture). And how every Halloween should end. 😴 #halloween2019 #oneluckymama #joyintheworks
Instagram post 2165603515884159288_1704606355 Why should you spend $ on a commercialized Halloween Party Game when you have your own artist at home! Or in the case of my son’s 4th grade class, have the kids make their own! (This one is for the Kindergarten class) I was super surprised the 4th graders opted for this game, plus a few others, when we were planning their class party, but they were in charge of the planning this year, so I know it will be a hit! Curious about what else upper elementary students want at their #classhalloweenparty ? Instagram post 2164450107825707351_1704606355 It’s amazing how much joy they get from a bin of corn. 🌽 They literally look forward to this every fall! #gandmfarms #cornpit #pumpkinpatch #fallfamilyfun #joyintheworks
Instagram post 2161885707080048017_1704606355 Note to self, when taking apart a skeleton for some Halloween fun, label the pieces so you can put it back together correctly!! On a related note, searching for hidden bones and assembling the skeleton at the end makes for a fun Halloween game!! #buildaskeleton #diyhalloweengame #familyfunactivities #joyintheworks
Instagram post 2160600719487566531_1704606355 What else is there to do when you have a huge amount of leftover candy except make some cute gift tags and give it away?! Love brightening someone else’s day instead of beating myself because I am terrible at estimating how much food I will need for a party! Plus just making the gift tags gave me joy, so that all adds up to success in my book! 😁 #joyintheworks #spreadjoy #givegifts #diygifttags #sweetsforthesweet #leftovercandy #candybarleftovers
Instagram post 2151808416841015408_1704606355 So far I am actually enjoying parenting a teenager (for the most part!), but one thing that isn’t my favorite?? Teaching them to drive! It’s not that he is a bad driver or anything, it’s just that I am putting my life in the hands of a teenager and they don’t have a developed prefrontal cortex yet and therefore don’t always make rational decisions! 😆#teenagedrivers🙈 #sofarsogood #howisheoldenoughtodrive #drivingpractice #lovemyteen #joyintheworks
